Things To Do During Fall On Mustang Island

Mustang Island – an eclectic, eighteen-mile-long barrier island on the coast of Texas, popular with vacationers all year long. However, should you find yourself wanting to escape the dreaded crowds and come off-season, there are still plenty of autumn activities to keep the whole family occupied!

The island itself boasts Padre Island and the JFK Causeway to the south, and the small, spirited town of Port Aransas, known as “Port A”, to the north. Between the two are miles of open sand, with the ability to camp, kayak, hike, fish, and just explore the outdoors in general.

Mustang Island State Park
With over five miles of coastline and a yearly temperature of 50 degrees or above, any water-related activities are a must; swimming, surfing, playing in the sand or loafing in general. Camp overnight at one of forty-eight water and electric equipped sites, or fifty primitive sites, with facilities for picnicking, hiking, and bird-watching (watch for the spectacular autumn migrations!) If camping isn’t your style and you would rather enjoy the state park for a day trip, Port Aransas vacation rentals are a great lodging option for travelers.

Also available is the Mustang Island Paddling Trail, twenty miles of following the western shoreline of the Corpus Christi Bay, with access to shallow-water fishing areas.

Schlitterbahn’s Waterpark and Resort
The brand new Corpus Christi waterpark is a great attraction for kids and adults. Enjoy the gorgeous beach views, a wave-filled float river, swim-up bars, beaches, and surfing. Schlitterbahn’s Waterpark also has a golf course on site.

Golfing
Port Aransas offers a selection of top-notch golfing options, including the Palmilla Beach Resort & Golf Club, Losano Golf Center, NorthShore Country Club, Oso Beach Municipal Golf Course, and the Padre Island Country Club.

Shopping
The quaint Texas town of Aransas provides a unique shopping experience, including highly rated gems such as The Islander, Gratitude, Fly It Port A, Lone Star Taste, Moby Dick’s Souvenirs, and The Silver King Jewelry.

Dining
After a day of sport in the sand and sun, nothing goes over better than a sumptuous meal. Popular choices include Port A Pizza, Seafood and Spaghetti Works, La Playa Mexican Grill, and Frankie’s Kitchen.

Mustang Island is a wonderful choice of amusement for the whole family, with many enjoyable options for entertainment, dining, and relaxation.
